Specialized in the water and environmental fields, Dr. Allelign Zeru has over 10 years of professional experience in engineering, R&D, consulting, modeling and simulations at local and international projects in Europe, Africa, and United States. He managed several technical and R&D projects related to groundwater, stormwater, wastewater, hydropower, water resources planning, and coordinated environmental action plans in accordance with the Kyoto Protocol to the UNFCCC. Over the past five years, he has also managed the development of decision tools for water & environmental management. He organized and offered short trainings for international audience and clients.
He authored a novel mathematical model VINMOD to evaluate the state of groundwater quality at potentially polluted industrial sites. The key advantage of VINMOD over conventional methods is that it is a quick and cost effective evaluation method without requiring much investment for installing dense sampling network or for investigating sources of pollutants. He also managed the development of SIMAHPP - a decision tool for hydropower projects feasibility evaluation based on technical (hydraulic), financial, and environmental parameters. In addition, he designed and applied the multi-criteria decision making concept for sustainable water resources management by integrating the technical, financial, socio-economic, environmental, and institutional criteria.
Articles he authored/co-authored are in Journal of Contaminant Hydrology, Journal of Hydroinformatics, Journal of Geo Engineering, and in several conference proceedings and technical reports. Moreover, he produced technical manuals, user guides, and training materials.
