About PINwin: PINwin, abbreviated for 'Pump and Inverse' for Windows platform, is a tool for groundwater pollution analysis based on a new concept involving the inversion of the concentration-time series data during pumping tests. It is particularly appropriate when the number of monitoring wells are very limited and the source of pollution is unknown, which is the case in many urban industrial zones. PINwin is used for simplified homogeneous conditions and single well setup. For advanced and multi-well applications, for both homogeneous and heterogenous conditions, it is recommended to use VINMOD. PINwin simulates the contaminant concentration distribution and the corresponding total mass flow rate at a predefined control plane (ICP), imaginary plane located perpendicular to the main groundwater flow direction, based on concentration-time series data measurements from a real site. From a site specific gradient ratio value, the mean concentration and the total mass flow rate can be recalculated by taking into account the concentration gradient in the plume. The main applications of PINwin are evaluation of the state of groundwater pollution, health risk studies, remediation design studies under homogeneous conditions. PINwin requires principal input parameters such as concentration-time series data, well pumping rate, hydraulic conductivity, hydraulic gradient, aquifer thickness, soil porosity, concentration gradient ratio. PINwin helps to determine mass flow rate and natural concentration distribution of undisturbed contaminant plume, i.e. pre-pumping concetration distribution.
